My Goals until I get 30

My goals until I get 30 years old

Back in June 2015 I had one year left before finishing my studies and I thought about what I want to achieve until I’m 30. To make it a bit more convenient (and get a bit more time) I specified that I want to achieve my goals until the end of the year when I’ll turn 30. As goals always should be SMART the easiest way for me was to focus on tangible numbers. Therefore, I focused solely on financials and formulated the following goals 5 years ago:

• I want to earn at least a yearly € 80k gross salary per December 2021.
• I want to have € 100k net worth at the end of 2021.

Why 30?

First, 30 seems a bit like a magic age - a turning point in your life.
Secondly, I’ll turn 30 in the second half of 2021 which was roundabout 5 years in the future back then.
Thirdly and last, the end of 2021 will also mark my 5th year working full-time.

A little bit of context

I am based in Austria.

I was at the end of my Master degree when I formulated my goals and 80k (target) gross salary seemed rather unreachable. For reference: Statistik Austria states that Employees who worked full-time all-year achieved a median gross annual income of €43 719 (women €39 320, men €45 900) in 2019.

100k net worth were also out of my mind and I - very naively - thought I’ll be rich with this (back then ridiculously high) amount.

I over-achieved both of my goals already

Fortunately (or unfortunately as I now need to think about new goals) I achieved both already. The target salary I accomplished in December 2020, whereas my net worth exceeded € 100k in beginning of January 2021.
