Power of the Group

I always need to remind myself to use the power of the group. As I already wrote I’m working at a big IT consulting company. The Austrian office is rather small compared to the worldwide corporation (less than 0.04% employees), as Austria is obviously a rather small country and therefore a rather small economy and customer base compared to e.g. US or Germany or China.

It’s quite easy to get lost in the day-to-day business and try to figure problems out on your own. And I always need to remind myself to use all the resources and strengths of the bigger group. We probably have an expert for every topic, every sector, and every specific use-case somewhere in the world. It’s sometimes just hard to get in contact with the right person.

And there’s probably one of the biggest secrets for success in a big corporation hidden: don’t reinvent the wheel on your own. Connect yourself to the international community, network with key experts and employ their knowledge and expertise to your problems. This will probably lead you to success faster and in a more efficient way. It probably is more effort in the short-term but helps in the long-run!
