Why Kids Hate Writing

Michael He wrote a post on why do people hate writing, and why do people think they can’t write well?.

I saw it in my timeline with a comment from Paul Graham:
If you only write what other people make you write, you won’t enjoy writing. And if you don’t enjoy writing, you won’t do it well.

Michael marks the following points and I can agree with all of them:

  1. We don’t write for ourselves.

I am trying to overcome this with my blog and making writing a habit.
There are not too many (regular) readers (yet) so the blog is basically for myself.

  1. We don’t read.

Just wrote about my reading habits recently.

  1. We don’t edit.

I am missing this point completely. I probably should focus on editing in the future: currently my posts are mostly written within a few minutes and I don’t spend much time on editing.

  1. We buy into the bullshit myth of writing.
Writing well is the result of practice. Combine that with fun, with enthusiasm, with a sensei, and improvement is guaranteed.

Agree - that’s why I’m doing it 😎
